My story with ceramics was like a seed that sprouted inside me for many years. The streets where I was born and raised in Istanbul, the air I breathed in the city and the stories I witnessed would one day find form and take shape; but I did not know when and how this journey would begin.

While the education I received at Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration led me to a different path, I always carried the desire to create within me. When I entered the Ceramics and Glass Department of Mimar Sinan University Faculty of Fine Arts, I felt that this desire would turn into a language. Nevertheless, life led me to work in the metal sector for many years.

In 2019, I started to shape my dreams by establishing the brand “atölye fatinye”. Istanbul
Sculptural figures carrying the spirit of porcelain and stoneware blended with the joy of city life
Functional ceramics produced from clay came into being in my workshop. An inseparable part of Istanbul
cats, plump ladies gossiping with each other and the city’s winged inhabitants, seagulls, “workshop
came to life in the world of “Fatihniye”.

The experience and knowledge gained from working with metal for many years before meeting ceramics
When they met, it allowed me to discover a brand new language of expression; Metal and ceramics in the same body.
timeless sculptures that come together…

These sculptures, which are part of the Fatma Karaçam collection, are structurally very different from each other.
The materials ceramic and metal came to life in different forms.
I am still continuing my work in my workshop in Balat. Each piece is a trace of my past,
It carries a story from the streets of Istanbul and a dream that extends into the future. I hope my ceramics will tell you new stories, make you dream and inspire you.

With love,

Fatma Karacam
